Cuba has now been included in Black History Week For the first time! Finally… I had the pleasure of visiting Canning House, to see REVOLUTION which is a documentary made by first-time director Mayckell Pedrero Mariol approaching the world of Los Aldeanos. This film has not been shown outside Cuba, so I felt very privileged to view this documentary. The documentary gave you a fantastic insight into an example of how the Cuban Revolution still effects each and every Cuban still living in Cuba today. The restrictions are something us westerners will never be able to get our head around. You are either for Fidel’s dictation or completely against his methods of “controlling a country”.

I personally think it is wonderful, and so powerful, no other country has been as strong and united in term of world politics. Los Aldeanos was created in 2003 by the two friends; Aldo Roberto Rodríguez Baquero (El Aldeano) and Bian Óscar Rodríguez Gala (El B). After only 3 years of existence, they gained international recognition and appeared in the New York Times article titled “Cuba’s Rap Vanguard Reaches Beyond the Party Line”. They write lyrics about the country they were born and raised in, negative and positive. They are famed on speaking their mind about Cuba and not being afraid.
